The RMI Economic Brief is produced annually to provide an independent assessment of the Republic of the Marshall Island's economic performance and policy environment, as well as independently verified economic statistics. The RMI Economic Brief summarizes the full RMI Economic Review, which is developed to assist the government of RMI and the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs to fulfill their respective reporting requirements under the RMI's Compact of Free Association with the United States. The review summarizes recent economic performance, sectoral issues, external debt, fiscal performance and policy, public financial management, state-owned enterprise reform, the financial sector, private sector development, Compact issues, and the economic outlook.
The FY21 Palau Economic Symposium convened on November 18, 2021, to engage stakeholders from the public and private sector to "Forge New Pathways." The EconMAP team delivered the keynote presentation to outline "Alternative Development Paths and Fiscal Implications for Palau." The presentation highlights recent economic performance and projects fiscal outcomes given the implementation of Palau's high-value tourism strategy. The presentation was delivered by EconMAP team member, Mr. Kevin O'Keefe.
The Palau Ministry of Finance convened leadership to identify reforms to the government's social security system. This keynote presentation was delivered at the start of the workshop, which met from November 9-12, 2021. The presentation assesses the current state of the ROPSSA system and identifies modeled variables which participants can explore to "solve" the reform.

This EconMAP Economic Issue Paper explores the impact of COVID-19 on the economy of the Federated States of Micronesia, and the FSM's policy response to the pandemic. At the outset, the FSM took strong proactive measures to protect the health of the nation, and to-date has successfully avoided any cases of COVID-19. The paper begins with a brief overview of the economic performance and fiscal structure and of the FSM; details donor assistance and mitigation efforts in response to COVID-19; projects the short-term economic impact of the pandemic and likely fiscal recovery; and reviews economic and fiscal policies intended to support economic recovery and growth.
